← How Circular Deduction works

Inside the decision architecture

See what governs
the decision.

People and systems contribute evidence. Circular Deduction structures the review. Human Authority controls consequential commitment.

Explore a synthetic demonstration or discuss a separately scoped engagement.

People and expertise, enterprise systems, and AI-assisted analysis feed governed review. A separate Human Authority gate precedes the Snapshot and Decision Basis Record. A coral dashed unresolved condition remains in the record.

Conceptual illustration. Human Authority records the disposition. Snapshot and Decision Basis Record preserve the basis.

Coral dashed: unresolved and retained. HOLD remains possible. No approval is implied.

01 / System roles

Each part has a clear job.

Select a role to inspect its contribution and boundary. These explanations grant no decision authority.

Method / Circular Deduction

Structure the consequential decision.

Frame → Derive → Contradict → Reconcile → Commit → Extract govern the decision. The separate +1 Reinsert state governs what validated learning is authorized to change.

Operating and governance architecture / ECOS

Keep the governing context attributable.

ECOS provides the governed decision environment: evidence state, applicable requirements, identified governing versions, authority context and review conditions. Decision Review is its governance and verification subsystem.

Common operating surface / Decision Cockpit

Inspect the state before acting.

The Cockpit presents one decision, its current state, material conditions, Human Authority, permitted actions and consequences. The Decision Basis Record preserves the as-of justification.

Bounded assistance / Aegis

Make evidence and tensions easier to examine.

Aegis supports analysis, evidence synthesis, contradiction testing, candidate proposals and reconstruction. People describe the problem in their own language; material ambiguity calls for clarification.

Accountable authorization / Human Authority

Make the consequential disposition explicit.

Duly authorized people or governing bodies define purpose, accept residual risk and authorize commitments within an established scope, delegation and any required concurrence.

Information can move. Decision rights remain explicit.

02 / Evidence to recorded action

Follow one decision.
Keep the unresolved condition visible.

Four freely selectable explanations of one fixed example. Selecting a view changes only the explanation.

SYN-LAUNCH-01 v1.0 · initial-phase launch

Fictional as-of 14 Oct 2026. Gate WITHHELD; no actual authorization or execution. Required concurrence remains open.

RECORDED DISPOSITION: HOLD

Inputs / Preserve distinctions

Submission is the start of examination.

Four evidence lines, one resource-availability assumption and two contradictions are kept distinguishable. Source, date, review status and limitations stay attached to each material input.

A supplier readiness claim is not sufficient evidence of actual mobilization.

  • E1–E4 / Evidence lines
Includes the E3 supplier readiness claim; admission and sufficiency require review.
  • A1 / Resource availability
An explicit assumption, not an established fact.
  • C1 + C2 / Contradictions
Scope/funding tension and unverified supplier mobilization.

Review / Bound the remaining tension

One tension resolves. One remains open.

C1 is resolved through dated scope/funding reconciliation; its history stays in the record. C2 remains unresolved and is bounded to the launch dependency.

A clearer basis does not make the unresolved condition disappear or authorize launch.

  • C1 / Resolved
Dated scope/funding reconciliation retained with its supporting history.
  • C2 / Unresolved
Supplier mobilization and crew availability remain unverified.
  • A1 / Still explicit
Resource availability remains distinguishable from the admitted evidence.

Human Authority / Accountable disposition

The program sponsor records HOLD.

The illustrative sponsor acts within the stated launch scope and applicable concurrence conditions. The unresolved supplier dependency prevents this example from showing launch authorization.

This explanation contains no control for committing a real decision.

Illustrative program sponsorHOLD

C2 remains unresolved. No launch is authorized.

Reconsideration requires an updated basis and recorded required concurrence.

Record / Reconstruct the basis

Retain what mattered at the decision.

The Snapshot presents the state at decision. The Decision Basis Record preserves evidence, assumptions, tensions, governing context, authority and recorded next actions.

Working records remain available during HOLD. Recording a disposition does not demonstrate execution, closure or a verified ledger receipt.

Illustrative record / Same fixed example

Decision Basis Record
Basis
E1–E4 and A1 retained.
Tensions
C1 resolved; C2 unresolved and bounded to launch.
Authority
Illustrative program sponsor; scope and concurrence explicit.
Disposition
HOLD. No launch authorized.
Next action
Obtain dated supplier mobilization evidence.

These are explanatory views, not additional states of the 6+1 method.

03 / Inspect the controls

Simple surface.
Governed depth.

Expand the controls behind the visual. These describe architecture and evidence boundaries; they are not a certification or a live operating-state report.

The 6+1 method and closure boundary

Circular Deduction is the methodology. The first six states govern the consequential decision:

  1. Frame
  2. Derive
  3. Contradict
  4. Reconcile
  5. Commit
  6. Extract

Commit completes the authorized decision. Downstream execution, verification and observed outcomes remain separately accountable. Extract establishes candidate learning.

+1 Reinsert / Governed adaptation

Validated learning receives explicit disposition against an identified governing-system version. Extraction alone does not close the governed learning cycle.

Authorization, implementation, verification and learning closure must remain distinguishable.

Evidence, contradiction and reconsideration
Verified evidence
Corroborated information with source authority and material limitations preserved.
Supplied claim
Information presented by a source but not yet independently established.
Assumption or inference
A premise or reasoned conclusion distinguishable from evidence.
Unknown, Contradicted, Stale, Superseded
Distinct conditions that carry into residual risk and can trigger reconsideration until evidence or accountable authority resolves them.

Independent support remains necessary

A prior accepted conclusion establishes historical state; it cannot validate its own substantive correctness in a later cycle. Material reuse preserves provenance and requires independent or newly observed support appropriate to the current claim.

A practical example

“The vendor can deploy in ten weeks” remains a vendor claim conditional on integration readiness and data quality. The schedule is not established until those dependencies are tested.

Reconsideration

New conflicting evidence challenges an assumption, identifies the affected basis and reopens the decision. The resulting disposition may be revised, conditioned, deferred or rejected.

System handoffs and governing inputs
External governing systems → ECOS
Standards, regulation, policy, contracts, authority structures, methods, controls and systems of record contribute bounded, attributed and versioned inputs. Source, applicability, authority, evidence state and admission lineage remain explicit.
ECOS → Decision Cockpit
ECOS supplies governed state. The Cockpit displays it; the Cockpit does not own evidence or authority.
Cockpit request → validation → Decision Basis Record
A deliberate, authorized request is checked against current conditions. Durable records change through explicit governed state transitions.
Aegis → ECOS
Analysis, challenge and candidate proposals remain bounded inputs. Aegis cannot authorize, accept risk or write authority state.

The Decision Seam

A bounded point where evidence, authority, constraints or readiness govern permission to create material consequence. The surrounding external system retains its own identity.

Before an input affects the Decision Basis, the architecture resolves source/version, applicability, authority, evidence state and its control or gate effect.

Governance translation

External Governance Object → Governance Primitive → Applicability → Authority Resolution → Evidence Requirement / Evidence State → Control or Gate Effect → Decision Basis → Assurance Output.

FEED, HOST, GOVERN and GATE describe interoperability functions; their depiction does not establish unrestricted enterprise integration.

Human language and the five layers

Five connected layers

  1. Accountable Human Authority: purpose, permitted data and action, residual risk, commitment, closure and release.
  2. Human and domain language: people describe the decision in the language of their work.
  3. Aegis intent translation: analysis and challenge within explicit boundaries; material ambiguity calls for clarification.
  4. ECOS and Decision Review: governed context and review of evidence, authority, commitments, verification, risk and reconstructability.
  5. Cockpit, Decision Basis Record and Integration Gateway: inspect state, retain the as-of justification and admit attributable external requirements.

From questions to controls

What do we actually know?
Evidence-state classification separates evidence, claims, assumptions and gaps.
What does not add up?
Contradiction review connects conflicting evidence to its decision effect.
Does the decision still hold?
A reconsideration gate reopens material changed conditions.
Who actually decides?
Recommendation, approval, risk acceptance, commitment and execution remain distinct.
Can we defend this?
Decision / Artifact Assurance examines evidence, contradiction, authority and release readiness.

Translation integrity

Material ambiguity and its resolution are retained. Qualitative states such as Confirmed, Ambiguous, Clarification required and User-corrected describe the translation; they do not supply authority.

State, authority and record integrity

Five truths remain reconstructable

State truth
Accepted state-changing events establish current decision state under the applicable evidence and authority gates. Activity completion alone grants no entitlement.
Governing truth
Each consequential transition refers to an identified governing version. Later rules cannot silently rewrite its basis.
Authority truth
Decision rights are bounded and distinct from participation, technical access, recommendation and implementation capability.
Execution truth
The record distinguishes proposer, authorizer and executor, and whether the executed object matched what was approved.
Evidence truth
Source identity, classification, admission status, limitations and transformation lineage remain attached.

Commit and receipt are separate

The design contract distinguishes WITHHELD, READY, COMMITTED and RECONCILIATION REQUIRED. Readiness permits eligible Human Authority to review a deliberate commitment. Committed state does not itself establish VERIFIED Decision Assurance Ledger (DAL) evidence.

Where committed state lacks matching receipt evidence, reconciliation is required; another commitment must not be inferred as the remedy. Current conditions and authority must be rechecked by the authoritative server at execution.

Records across the lifecycle

The Decision Basis Record preserves point-in-time history, authority, commitments, evidence, assumptions, contradictions, uncertainty and execution provenance. The DAL is the record layer across the lifecycle, not a reasoning stage.

Reported completion, approved action, executed action, observed outcome and authorized human closure remain distinct.

Design candidates and limits

Ledger of Judgment and Double-Entry Deduction remain proposed historical-reconstruction and reconciliation disciplines subject to compatibility, integrity, replay and independent verification gates. These bounded reference controls do not establish production IAM/RBAC, universal interoperability or client-validated outcomes.

Governed improvement and disclosure boundaries

Challenge the rule as well as the behavior

Ask whether the system behaved correctly under the current rule, whether the rule itself is correct, and whether the process that created or changed it is trustworthy.

Material findings can move from behavior to governance of behavior to assurance of the governance process. An assurance failure can reopen the review even when a revised rule appears reasonable.

What can be inspected

A bounded demonstration.

A public-safe synthetic Cockpit demonstrates the governed interface and withheld commitment. The bounded authenticated Threshold → Decision Biosphere → Decision Cockpit path is a separate capability.

Enter through Threshold. Orient in the Biosphere. Govern in the Cockpit. Identity does not create Human Authority.

Evidence boundary

External proof remains a distinct gate.

Demonstration access does not establish independent security assurance, client-validated outcomes, commercial adoption, unrestricted integration or general production readiness.

Client-data admission, SSO/SCIM, independent validation and production outcome claims require their own evidence. “Governed Decision Operating System” remains a future designation gated by persistent state, enforceable authority, operational components, verified outcomes and repeatable learning across decision classes.
